Many homes lose heat, waste energy, and rely on old equipment that’s expensive to run and hard to replace.
Green Spark is offering a limited home upgrade program that helps eligible homeowners:
Replace an old water heater with a new electric one
Make home improvements that keep heat inside in winter and out in summer
Get help exploring solar if their home qualifies
You don’t need to understand energy programs or paperwork. We explain everything clearly and help you move through the process step by step.
What You May Qualify For
Depending on your home and eligibility, this program may include:
A new electric water heater, installed at no cost
Home improvements that reduce drafts and energy loss
A professional home check to see what upgrades make sense
Help exploring solar options for your home
Not every home receives every upgrade. At a minimum, this program includes a water heater and home improvements that help reduce energy waste.
Solar is optional. If it makes sense for your home, we’ll explain your options after your home audit.
Who This Program Is For
This program is designed for homeowners who:
Live in an eligible Maryland county (Montgomery County, Howard County, Anne Arundel County)
Own and live in their home
Use gas, oil, or propane in their home
Have not had home sealing or insulation work done in the past 5 years
If you’re not sure whether your home qualifies, it’s okay. The first step is a quick eligibility check.
Eligibility Criteria
Free upgrades are available households that meet the following criteria.
Annual household income(before taxes) must fall below the following amounts:
1-Person Household
$70,400
2-Person Household
$80,450
3-Person Household
$90,500
4-Person Household
$100,550
5-Person Household
$108,600
6-Person Household
$116,640
Homes currently be heated with oil, propane, or natural gas
Homes must have a separate water heater and utility metering
Additional factors may affect a homes readiness for retrofits
Why Green Spark Is Doing This
Upgrading your home is expensive. Most homeowners put it off because they don’t know where to start or can’t afford it.
Green Spark received special funding to help homeowners:
Replace outdated equipment
Make homes more comfortable
Lower long-term energy costs
Access solar, even after major tax credits ended
This program is limited. Only 60 homes can be helped through September 2027.
Once spots are filled, the program closes.
How the Process Works
We keep this simple and guided.
Step 1.
Check Eligibility
Fill out a short form to see if your home may qualify.
Step 2.
Required Call
If you’re a good fit, you’ll schedule a call with our team. We explain the program, answer questions, and outline next steps.
Step 3.
Home Check
We schedule a professional home check to see which upgrades your home qualifies for.
Step 4.
Approved Upgrades
If approved, we coordinate your water heater replacement and home improvements. If solar makes sense, we’ll explain those options too.
We don’t send anyone to your home until everything is explained and approved. No pressure. No surprises.
Solar May Be an Option for Some Homes
Some homeowners in this program may qualify for help covering most or all of the cost of a solar system.
Solar is not required. If your home qualifies and you’re interested, we’ll walk you through your options after your home check.
If solar isn’t a fit, you can still move forward with the water heater and home improvements.

Is this really free?
If your home qualifies, the water heater and home improvements are completed at no cost to you. Eligibility is confirmed after your home check.
Do I have to get solar?
No. Solar is optional. The base program includes a water heater and home improvements.
What if I use gas?
Homes that use gas, oil, or propane may qualify. The specific upgrades depend on your home.
Why is there a required call?
This program has rules and limited funding. The call helps explain everything clearly and prevents delays later.
What if my home doesn’t qualify?
If your home doesn’t qualify, we’ll let you know quickly so you don’t waste time.
